Zhou Mi: Hello everyone, I am Super Junior-M’s Chinese member, Zhou Mi. Really happy to be able to bring our new album to meet our friends from Netease.

Returning to the Chinese market after a gap of 1 and a half year, what do you want to tell the fans the most?
Zhou Mi: ah, that, Super Junior-M has waited for 1 and a half year, we have also made our fans wait for 1 and a half year, releasing our newest mini album, Perfection. How do we put it, it’s a new start, and we hope that everyone will continue to support us. Mostly importantly, we are working very hard to do this album, to do music that we like. Regardless of our image, or the music, or the choreography, we have put in our best effort to do our very best, and hope that you will like this album, Perfection.

Can you introduce the new SJ-M members to everyone?
Kyuhyun: This time, when preparing the mini album, there was a change in the members, 2 new members joined. The new members are Sungmin and Eunhyuk. After they joined the group, they allowed our current group to become more perfect, just like our new album’s name, Perfection. Eunhyuk’s dance parts and Sungmin’s singing parts have been a help to us.
Sungmin: Hello everyone, I am Sungmin. I would like to meet everyone.
Eunhyuk: Hello, I am Super Junior-M’s new member, Eunhyuk. I am Eunhyuk (in Chinese).

Sungmin and Eunhyuk, when recording the Chinese album, did they have any pronunciation difficulties?
Sungmin: This is my first time recording a Chinese album, the correct pronunciation is very difficult. I learnt from Zhou Mi, whenever I had to record, Zhou Mi would help me. Although it was difficult, but in the end I still completed the recording.
Eunhyuk: In the song “Love is Sweet”, there was a Chinese rap portion, and it was especially difficult. I also had the help of Zhou Mi, and worked hard to record this song. Not sure if the Chinese fans listen find it nice when they listen to it?

For Eunhyuk, coming to China to work, he gave up his DJ position in Korea, are there any regrets?
Eunhyuk: At the moment, I’ve temporarily stopped my programs with Korean broadcasting stations and radio stations, but it does not mean giving them up. This time, I am coming to China as a Super Junior-M member, I have been working hard, and I also hope that when this album’s promotional activities end, I will be able to return to Korea with good results.

The fur concept in the new album, was it the members’ own idea?
Zhou Mi: Most of the concept was prepared for us by the stylists, but before preparing for the album photoshoot, we held our own meeting, and discussed with the photographer the result that we wanted for our photos, and we hoped to express our most perfect, most unique, and different image to everyone. Because previously, Super Junior-M, in our 1st and 2nd albums, we had a sunny and handsome concept, and this time, we are more mysterious. Most importantly, because we are regarding this album, Perfection, as a new starting point, we hope to bring everyone a different feeling. So, do you like it? Do you like it? Is it okay? Okay.
Kyuhyun: I like it more.

Let’s talk about the new song Jay Chou and Fang Wenshan composed for you.
Zhoumi: Fang Wenshan… This time, in our album, Jay Chou wrote a song, the name is
Kyuhyun: Love is Sweet
Zhou Mi: We were quite happy such an excellent musician wrote a song for us, because Jay Chou is a singer that Henry likes a lot, so this time, it’s not only Henry that was very happy, but for the 8 of us, today Siwon is not here… For the 8 of us, it is an extremely happy thing. The tune was nice, the pronunciation was difficult, but the members worked really hard to pronounce their pronunciation well. In this mini album, we recorded a total of 6 songs. Before this, everyone’s impression of Super Junior-M was that we followed a dance music style, and this time, our title song follows that style, but what is more special is that aside from Perfection, we added a lot of emotional songs, in this album, most of the other songs are emotional songs. We also hope that everyone will be able to focus their attention on our singing abilities.
Kyuhyun: During “A Secret That Could Not Be Told” press conference, Super Junior met Jay Chou. I have a good first impression of him, really like his songs, and this time, being able to work with him is very delightful.

This time, when going to Taiwan to do promotions, did you meet Jay Chou again?
Ryeowook: Really thankful to Jay Chou for composing such a good song for us. This time when we went to Taiwan, we didn’t have the chance to meet him. Hopefully in future, there is a chance to meet, and sit down to eat and talk with him.

Have you considered working with any other local musicians?
Kyuhyun: If there is the chance, in future I would like to work with Zhang Hui Mei. I would like to work with Zhang Hui Mei by myself.
Sungmin: As of now, we don’t have any exact plans, but if there really is the chance, there are many huge stars in China, I hope that in future, we will have the chance to work together with singers in the Chinese singing industry.

Henry, can you talk about the feeling of composing your own song?
Eunhyuk: Are you ready?
Henry: I’m ready. Erm in this time, I have a solo song, it’s called Confession.
Eunhyuk: Confession.
Henry: The English name is Off My Mind.
Eunhyuk: Off My Mind.
Henry: This song, me and a few of my American friends…. In Berkeley University I met some musician friends and we wrote a song together. Uhm, the song lyrics were written by me, actually my standard of Chinese isn’t very good, but for everyone, I worked hard and wrote this song – the lyrics and the music, for everyone. Hope everyone can enjoy this song.

Did you include your own feelings and experience in the composing of the song?
Henry: Uhm, these song lyrics are talking about, the meaning is…… If you look at the lyrics, it is like you are talking, the feeling like you are talking to the girl. So the first verse says “Girl when I see you, I go cra-cra-crazy, I just want you to be my baby. It’s like the feeling of saying it, the feeling is like that.
Eunhyuk: Good boy, good boy.

Zhou Mi wrote the lyrics for the new song True Love, why did you persist in composing?
Zhou Mi: Errr actually, I have a dream, that is to….
Kyuhyun: Dream.
Zhoumi: That’s right.
Kyuhyun: Castle of dreams….
Zhoumi: That’s right. I have a wish that in every single Super Junior-M album, I am able to take part in the composition process. In the first album, there were 3 songs written by me, and in the second album, Super Girl, there were 2 songs, I also wrote song lyrics for Kangta Sunbae, and up to now, Perfection…. I want to try my best to experience songs with different feels, for example slow songs, fast songs, or playful, cute songs. Right now I am not only trying out the lyrics writing, recently I have tried composing the tune, but I hope to be able to compose more good music, and have more chances to let every listen to it in future.

When learning Chinese, who is the most intelligent, who is the most playful and hard to teach?
Zhou Mi: The most intelligent student? Everyone is very intelligent, for example if you tell them where their pronunciation is wrong, they will correct it. And there is something else, what else is there? The most playful student? The most playful student is him (points to Kyuhyun).
Kyuhyun: Me?
Zhou Mi: He’s the most playful because his pronunciation is too good, he doesn’t need me to worry about his pronunciation, so sometimes, if I were to go “Kyuhyun, this pronunciation isn’t that good”, he would joke with me “No, it’s your own pronunciation that’s not good, hyung, it’s your pronunciation that’s not good!”. Actually, this album, everyone’s pronunciation, I feel that it compared previously to the 1st and 2nd album, the improvement is very huge. Aside from this, Eunhyuk and Sungmin hyung, because they are the 2 members that just joined us, when they were recording, they were very worried about their pronunciation, afraid that their pronunciation couldn’t keep up with the other members. But actually, their pronunciation is very good, so when I am paying attention to their pronunciation, I am extremely statisifed.
Sungmin: Although right now, my Chinese isn’t very fluent, but I am working very hard. Beside me, there’s also a very good teacher, Zhou Mi, I will follow Zhou Mi and learn Chinese well. I really anticipate coming to China to take part in activities and performances in future.

While preparing the album, were there any unforgettable incidents?
Kyuhyun: While preparing for this album, there were 2 versions of the MV we had to film, one was the Chinese version, the other was the Korean version, so it required 2 times the amount of time as compared to a normal MV. During the 2-3 days, we hardly got any sleep, it was more tiring.

Can you recommend which member is the most perfect boyfriend?
Sungmin: Ermmmm…. (stands up)
Kyuhyun: Don’t be mistaken, Sungmin just wants to go out. I feel… I feel…. This time, there’s only 7 of us here, and Super Junior-M has 8 people, we’re short of Siwon, so we’ll choose him as the most perfect boyfriend in our hearts.
Eunhyuk: Super Junior-M is one group, the strengths of 8 people added together, that is perfection.

Previously, Kyuhyun performed “Tan Te”, what are your thoughts about it? Can you sing a line now?
Kyuhyun: Actually, when preparing for the album, Zhou Mi and I went to search for which songs were the most popular in China, which songs were better known. After that, Zhou Mi and I watched a video of “Tan Te”, and coincidentally, during the recording of the Beijing program, we saw this video information again. At the live venue, there were many fans and the hosts let me sing. I had no way not to do it, everyone was awaiting this performance. At that time, I performed lethargically. Now, I’m feeling energetic now, so I feel embarrassed to perform. In future, if there is a chance, I will prepare well and show everyone.

[Interviews] Wonder Girls "wants a chartered plane too"

Girlgroup WONDERGIRLS is envious of their rival SNSD. On September 4 (Korean time) at the NCsoft AION players' convention in Seattle, WONDERGIRLS agreed to a media interview & shared their thoughts aloud. They yearned to get off like SNSD, & also hoped to perform together with their company's other artistes. -- About how SNSD took a specially charted flight to Los Angeles, WONDERGIRLS appeared a little bummed out.

Sunye: "Not so much dissatisfaction, as it has engendered an aspiration. [We] yearn to perform together with our JYP buddies. All the artistes under our company banner, one after another, putting up a special show for the fans. Seems like a great idea. For us, it can also produce good memories."

-- Recent hearsay has WONDERGIRLS losing Korean fans due to their American activities. Any thoughts about returning to re-establish [themselves] in Korea?

Yeeun: "About the claim of feeling sad over losing the fans, we make light of it. The reason why the fans like other singers is cuz they like different kinds of music, so we don't have any resentment. Also, denying this fact won't help us succeed. Although we are sorry about letting down our Korean fans, our American activities must still proceed on, right through to the final success. In order not to let the Korean fans feel upset, we will create a fanclub & upload videos."

-- Sunye's stealthy altruism in delivering clothing to the mountain codger has become a great talking point.

Sunye: "I am very embarrassed. Trekked over 2 hours in the mountains, yet unable to find [him]. Eventually, I had to inconvenience the show's PD with the task, & possibly that was how everybody came to know about it. I was worried about burdening the privy, but fortunately he was very understanding. Formerly in Korea, I was always thinking of doing something meaningful. This was a great opportunity, so it felt very good.

-- Any thoughts about the time spent on American activities?

Sunye: "We went to America in April last year. So already it has been about 1.5 years, & we have performed in over 90 cities [in all]. We released the title song 'Nobody' of our debut English-language album. When the latter hit the Billboard Top 100 in the last-half year, that was an extremely proud time & we were brimming with aplomb. This year, we have already toured solo in over 30 cities. The new '2DT' album was simultaneously released in Korean, English & Chinese editions. But this is the first time we are doing a Los Angeles [sic] showcase while appearing in the AION MMORPG game. It seems like destiny has been pulling us along, right through till the present."

-- After conducting America activities, any differences compared to Korea?

Yoobin: "The reactions of American & Korean fans seem the same. But during our events, we get to perform for & meet the fans more in America. In Korea, it was more through music broadcasts."

-- What are the future plans?

Lim: "We are preparing our next album. It is expected to be released in January 2011.

Sunye: "For the remaining 3 months or so this year, along with the American events & the album preparations, we may go to places we have not been to in Asia to carry out focused activities."

[INTERVIEW] Part 2: MBLAQ Yozm Star Interview

Q: You probably can't these days because of your activities, but what do you do sometimes on a free day?

G.O: I always watch a movie. Whether I'm at home or out.
CD: I visit home. Noona keeps telling me to come.
J: I try to sleep as much as possible and even go exercise!
M: Once in a while, we get a 2~3 weeks of vacation. Then I go down home and come back. But I still watch a movie and go down.

Q: Are G.O and Mir movie date-mates?

G.O: Recently, a movie team was created. The movie lovers came together to form this (G.O, Mir, Cheon Doong). So if we can't watch a movie in the theaters, we pay for the Hana TV or Mega TV channels to watch movies. Like, the new releases of this month.
M: I watch movies frequently, because it that much of a stress-reliever.
G.O: But our dorm's TV is the worst it could get. I said it earlier, but the dorm's equipments are...^^ Even So Ji Sub looks bad on our screen. The quality is so poor that I want to turn off the TV when we come out. We watch movies even under those conditions.

Q: What have you watched recently?

G.O: After deciding to watch an old movie, I watched "The Departed" recently. Actually, we give meaning to the fact that we turned it on. We don't watch and analyze or exchange comments. We just like the turn-off-lights-and-watching-a-movie atmosphere. Joon always exercises during breaks. He runs off somewhere and comes back after sweating. Even though Seungho seems like he made plans to hang out with his friends, he still asks me my plans for today and goes. 


Q: MBLAQ's most off-the-wall member is?

G.O: It's Mir. With scissors, he cuts his underwear that he was wearing, puts the rubberband part on his shoulders, cuts off the belly-button part as well, and does a performance. He does this and shows the rest of the members. 
M: [to G.O] Why are you so detailed! Since there's only us in the dorms, I want to make them have some fun. The members say they hate it, but laughs so much when they see it. G.O hyung comes next to me and starts cutting. I think we have a similar sense of humor.


Q: In the dorms, the mother-role member is?

G.O: The mother-role is our manager hyung.
M: Truthfully, we each take care of ourselves.
G.O: There is a time when suddenly, all of us are sick. Even in those times, he can just bring a all-in-one cold medicine, but the weird thing is, one has cold and fatigue, one has sore throat, and the other has a cold. Even in times like these, he brings us specific medicine and takes care of us so well.


Q: The lecture that Rain frequently nags you with?

J: Sleep after you die.
G.O: It's not nagging, but all the stuff that he says is all great stories. He leaves us with a lot of wise messages. There's many that I've never heard of in my live. But when I talked to 2PM or 2AM, I said, 'our Bi hyung says this and this a lot,' and they replied, 'Jin Young hyung say those too.' Bi hyung seems like he learned a lot from Park Jin Young sunbaenim, and is probably passing on the message, so we're very thankful. There's no nagging lectures.

Q: Then can you tell us a memorable message?

SH: This is the most memorable for me-- 'Does a right-handed person think and lift up his spoon with his right hand? When you're practicing, you have to concentrate on this and that, but on stage, leave your body to the music.' But I'm left-handed.^^


Q: The members' reactions after G.O shaves his mustache?

G.O: They all liked it. When I was monitoring myself, I thought that maybe I'm hurting the other members. I feel like I'm kind of out of place? After shaving my mustache, people around me said, 'It was your trade mark, but why did you shave it?' and were sad, but actually, it looks better shaved. I looked kind of stuffy with it. But the problem is, the hair grows very fast, so if I start out early in the morning, there are days where I have to shave in the middle of the day. 

Q: In the other members' perspectives, is shaved-G.O okay?

M: I was sad that G.O couldn't show his entire face with that mustache, but now that he shaved, it's good seeing his handsome face.
SH: Now, he seems like a friend.
G: Keke. I think these reactions are a relief. I should have shaved earlier on.

Q: Who is the member that is the most cares about his looks? And who is the most *rolly-rolly [like on the bed, because you're too lazy to get up^^] lazy-nismed member and the most diligent?

G: I think it's me. The most rolly-rolly member is Cheon Doong. Cheon Doongie is the most diligent, but also the most rolly-rolly. He lays on the bed all day, so whenever I go talk to Cheon Doongie, I feel like I'm visiting the sick. Because he just lays still.
M: Ah, he's endlessly rolly-rolly. He doesn't come out of the bed.
CD: There are those tiring days. Those days are the days that I don't even go near the practicing room. In those days, I feel like I'm going to die if I move. I sleep, wake up, sleep, wake up. 
M: G.O hyung and I are the most active, rather than diligent. We move actively in our dorms.
G.O: If I have time, I feel like it's a waste if I keep still. So even though I'm not going to watch it, I look at movie times, and even if the time is okay, I say, 'Ah, but there's probably a lot of people?' and don't watch it, and just move around.
M: Then I go for a cup of coffee, but with the weird rumor, I can't go out and I'm just living locked inside the dorm.


Q: It's been 8 months till debut~ The most memorable thing after debut? Is there also a fan that you still remember?

CD: I was an MC for Arirang TV. The first recording was private so the fans couldn't come, but starting from the second, many fans came. There were fans that came everyday without leaving out a day, and I remember them very much. Since it's a recording broadcast (non-live), when I'm sitting at the MC seat, fans talk to me, and I can reply, and so it was a great time getting to know them.
G.O: A Chinese fan sent a letter accompanied by costly gift. A cell phone. It's a price that's even too much for personal use, you know? And it was probably not easy giving that as a gift. But I felt a lot of responsibility as I was reading the letter. The fan was struggling with a severe depression, and she was actually from 'Bap Cha of Love' in a program that we appeared on in the past. In the description of the letter, there was a story of overcoming the thoughts of suicide and depression through our performance. Feelings can change from what you had started out with. When you're doing the broadcast activities, singing with honesty and sincerity becomes hard. Also, there are times when it's hard singing from your heart with the busy schedules. But from hearing that the fan gained strength from my singing, I felt that I needed to work even harder, and that I should take on more responsibilities.


Q: We hear a lot of ideal types, but what style do you hate? Especially G.O oppa!! Since you have a lot of experience~~ 

G.O: I don't like girls who do the two-faced flirting [acts one way to females, differently to males]. Since I'm really honest, I say everything that's in my head. I can't really do it towards the members, but if the girl is too flirty and don't say much, I feel like I'll get uncomfortable. I like a girl that I can open up and easily talk to.
J: I hate girls that talk with abusive language and girls that smoke.
CD: I also don't like girls that cusses, and lying girls. And I think it's unattractive, if a girl who have a lot of guys following her.

Q: If a girl is charming, isn't it natural that guys are around her?

CD: I think it all depends on what you do. There are girls like that.
SH: I don't like girls that are taller than me. I get in a bad mood if the girl's eyes are where my eyes are when we're talking. I understand if you're taller with high-heels, but I don't like it if a girl is born that way. I am the smallest out of all the members.

Q: What is 'Cloud' to MBLAQ? (The fans of Rain! The fans that helped a lot during MBLAQ's debut~ hehe)

CD: Mom.
M: They embraced us a lot.
G.O: They even helped us out when we were on the #1 list, and worrying about the number of votes. Our fans are always supportive, but the Clouds are always affectionate and supportive, so we're thankful. I always feel like they got our back. We want to show just the doing-well part of us to our fans, but Clouds give a lot of support, just for being Bi hyung's kids.

Q: Say a few words to A+.

M: I have nothing else to say except thank you. They are helping us to get to the top. They are probably having troubles right now. I'm just thankful.
G.O: The fans unite very well. They try so hard to rank the sound source streaming high, and we always receive. I hope that there's a chance to express our thankfulness. I sincerely do.


Q: Who suffers from '**prince disease' the most in MBLAQ? [**a person has this if they think that they're the most handsome, mirror-loving, cares too much his about looks; for females, it's 'princess disease']

M: Joonie hyung.
SH: Now, it's obvious that we should take care of our looks. But in our pre-debut days, we wore just trainers Monday through Sunday, but Joonie changes clothes in the middle of practice at the dorm and looks in the mirror to fix his hair occasionally during practice.
There's five guys, so I don't know why he fixes his hair. The dance choreographer and other trainees are all males, so I kept wondering why he care about his looks so much.

Q: What do you think G.O? Do you think it's Joon?

G.O: No, I think it's me? I cast a spell on myself frequently. I always look in the mirror with a optimistic attitude and talk to myself. I talk to myself to the point where I might look like a crazy person to someone, but I talk to myself that much to cast a spell confidently. 


Q: Girl group that MBLAQ likes is?

G.O: I like everyone!
M: T-Ara, SNSD, Kara, Secret, Wonder Girls-- I really like all!

Q: Have you talked to them?
G.O: I still talk to friends that I've met [when I was in a different group] in 2007.
M: I don't have any. I have a lot of guy 91er friends, but none from a girl group.
CD: I don't have any close friends. Whether it's a girl group, or guy friends, because I can't talk first because of my shy personality.

Q: What about noona's group?

CD: I greeted them just once. Sometime ago, 2NE1 performed "Fire" and "I Don't Care" for a special episode of Music Bank. I saw them once then, and said hi, but our schedules never overlapped, so there wasn't much chance to see each other. If I call noona in front of her waiting room, we talk together in front of the room. 


Q: If you weren't a singer, what will you be doing right now?
M: I'd be going to schoold and playing around with my friends. There's a promise I made to my high school friends. The promise was after graduating high school, we were going to go to college and travel a lot, and when we're even older, combining our farm and field so that we can farm together. Since our town is small, I have a lot of friends-for-almost-10-years friends, because we went to the same kindergarden, attend the same school, same class. My friends hang out with themselves, having fun without me. I want to hang out too, and I'm jealous, but my friends are really proud of me now, and I'm thankful.
SH: I think that I'd probably be a programmer with an engineering major. In their daily life, my friends have different hobbies, like looking at clothes, dancing, and cars, but I am only interested in electronics.
I have found solutions to things that A/S [after service] centers or internet could not answer to. 


Q: The hardest thing from preparing this album "Y?"
SH: Getting together from each of our individual schedule was hard. Previously, the five of us always practiced together, but this time, the practice was shorter and it was difficult, in that we had to finish practicing within that short time.
G.O: We participated in the song choice and album recording. We tried hard to show our development as artists. When artist receive songs from composers, most say 'it's okay' and add it to their album, but the five of us put our heart and soul to make this album.
We can confidently show our album to you guys, because we worked so hard on the recording and the mastering process.


Q: MBLAQ members are all blood type A, but who do you think is the most cautious/sensitive member? [Although never proven definitely by science, lots of Korean & Japanese people think that personality and blood type have some 
kind of correlation. It's a common knowledge in Korea that blood type A people are very cautious.]

CD: (pointing at Lee Joon)
G.O: All the members are all considerate so we choose our words carefully. But Joon is a bit more careful. So he expresses his sadness, saying, 'I didn't say that because I thought it would be hurtful,' if he is hurt by someone's words. Other than that, it's similar.

Q. If you were to have a concert, what is a performance you'd want to do?

Thunder: I want to do Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean'. Wearing that outfit, I want to have a stand microphone and recreate it perfectly. With a live band.
Mir: When you do a concert at a place like a stadium, only the people in the front can see the stage; the fans in the back can't. So I thought, I want to do a performance that everyone in the stadium can see.
Mir: You might think I'm copying, but I saw that in other artists' performances, they were singing while running across the stadium. It might not be a performance, but I want to give enjoyment to the fans.
Lee Joon: I want to show modern dance, because people seem to have a prejudice towards it. I take off my clothes a lot on stage, so people think that I like to take off my clothes in public a lot, but in dance performances, there are times when performers don't even wear underwear.
Lee Joon: I want to make the arts area of culture known. I want to show modern dance in a modern way.
G.O: I want to have a stage in the middle, and for all the fans to surround it, so that it will be a performance in which we can all communicate together.
Seungho: I want to perform at a place with no ceiling. So that we can jump off from a plane? I want to show that sort of event, and also show magic tricks.


Q. Which member of MBLAQ has the most close celebrity friends?

G.O: I debuted first in 2007, so I have friends that I knew from then. After I debuted as MBLAQ, I greeted them and even introduced them to the members.
G.O: Because I debuted around the same time as the Wonder Girls, I did a lot of radio shows with them. But to be honest, I didn't have a lot of close celebrity friends then. When I debuted as MBLAQ, I met a lot of celebrities because of Rain hyung. I'm close with BEAST because we debuted around the same time.
G.O: Just a while ago, I was going to go see a movie with the BEAST members, but our times clashed, so I couldn't.
Lee Joon: For me, Park KyungLim nuna, Shin BongSun nuna, and Jung JooRi nuna. There are a lot of people who ask me why I don't know idols, but why not! I'm comfortable with these nunas.
Lee Joon: Oh, and I'm also close with C.N. Blue because we knew each other before debut. We get together to eat and go clubbing. I'm close with SHINee's JongHyun too.
G.O: Honestly, we're all closest with our members. We build a close friendship in the dorm. 
Seungho: Keu heu heu. I'm living in a windowless prison! We only get together by ourselves.
G.O: When I just have coffee outside, rumors get created that say that I drank coffee with a girl. Our dorm is close to Apgujeong Rodeo, so I went to go drink coffee with Mir. Just because of the fact that there were women in our surroundings, I was caught up in an unbelievable rumor that I drank coffee with women.
G.O: I didn't even get to talk to any of them. Heuk. I'm really sad.


Q. MBLAQ, who is the epitome of chic, turns into gag-dols on Starry Night and variety programs! What are your thoughts on this?

Lee Joon: In the case of Starry Night, I think it's a program we do to clear our image and play. To us, it's a very comfortable program. I don't know how this will sound, but we do the broadcasts with the feeling that we're just playing. On variety shows, I work hard to show an undecorated, natural image.
(In a previous interview, Rain said that he wants MBLAQ to become a group like g.o.d.)
SeungHo: Yeah, I like reaching out to the masses comfortably. However, I would like us to maintain a bit of mysteriousness. It won't be too late for us to completely get rid of the mysteriousness after some time has passed. That definitely doesn't mean that we'll be withdrawn though. ^^
Seungho: I want to become a singer who people want to see on stage when we're off stage, and a singer that people want to get closer to when we're on stage. 
Mir: I think that Seungho hyung and I have been let loose a lot. We each have some belly fat. ^^
Lee Joon: It's comfortable and I like it. Nowadays, the one-pack is the big thing. That's why I haven't been taking care of what I eat lately. I don't exercise that much anymore. I will go back to a one-pack one day! A one-pack with a scarcity value!


Q. Tell us a scary or flustering episode you had while promoting~^^

Lee Joon: I really have a lot. Because of this, I was seriously stressed and felt really sorry to the members for a long time. It's the live radio incident.
Everyone: Puhahaha!!!! (as soon as the word 'radio' came out, everyone began cracking up)
Lee Joon: I'm being really sincere. With the thought that MBLAQ should be accepted for vocals, I prepared a lot. At a really important part, my voice cracked really badly. It was a live broadcast, and my voice cracked twice. When you type in the name of the song on the Internet, there's so many files that come up.
Lee Joon: I will confess truthfully. It was 4men's 'Confession'. It wasn't even a high note, but my voice cracked because I was trying to enjoy myself and not be nervous while singing. I was really sorry to the members, because thanks to me, the song that we had prepared for was ruined.
Mir: But in that situation, I was making fun of him.
Lee Joon: Yeah, everyone else was worried about me, but Mir made fun of me. Even when we went to go perform at places, Mir joked, "Joonie hyung, I hope your voice cracks at this part!". And made my feelings sad~.
Everyone: Puhahahaha!
Lee Joon: Thankfully, my voice hasn't cracked since the release of our second album. I think it's because I practiced a lot.
Seungho: For me..I have a episode that not a lot of male singers might have experienced. During our last album at a concert, we were in the middle of singing 'Oh Yeah', and before Thunder began his rap, I felt my zipper slowly going down. I was wearing gloves.
Seungho: I was going to turn around and pull up the zipper during the rest time, but as soon as Thunder's rap ended, it was my part, so there was no time to try. So I just performed with it open! Thankfully, I saw a picture taken, and you couldn't tell. I think it was because my underwear was black.
Lee Joon: I have another sad episode. I didn't know that I had the H1N1 virus. I just thought that I was really sick and went on stage and couldn't see anything in front of me. I didn't know what I was doing. I fainted on that stage. When I went to the hospital, they said it was the H1N1 virus.
Mir: I think that was the concert in which Seungho hyung's zipper opened.
Lee Joon: A lot of episodes happened on that stage.
Mir: On our debut day (last year 10/15), I learned for the first time that they do pre-recordings. Our last performance went on air, but I was so tired that I didn't rap at the end. At our debut stage. After that, though, I did it all!
Seungho: At our first stage, I think I wasn't as nervous because we had the experience of performing at Rain hyung's concert, but it was really hard. There was a camera following us even after the performance. 


Q. I'm a Chinese fan..do you have any plans to promote in China?

G.O: Honestly, if we could, we want to go to a lot of countries. We can't do it by greed though. We want to be accepted in Korea first, so that we can also be loved overseas. The first thing we need to do is get first place, so that we can freely try different kinds of music.
G.O: I think that we should think about overseas activities after that.


Q. Rain once said that if he got first place, he would dance while holding fish in his hands. Does MBLAQ have anything similar? If we get first place, we will ~~~! I want to hear something~ kek (something possible~ not impossible~ kek)

Thunder: I will sing live while doing hand popping.
Seungho: All five of us will do nikes.
Mir: I will sing live while being piggybacked on Seungho hyung's back.
Lee Joon: I will hold fish and dance instead of Jihoon hyung.
Seungho: I wonder if we'll have time to do that?
Mir: To be honest, I think we'll just say thank you and end it..
Thunder: But I think mine is too hard, so I want to change it. What should I do?
Seungho: Do a windmill with me.


Q. A wish that you want to come true this year?

Seungho: I want to win DaeSang.
Mir: I don't wish as big as a house, but I want to buy my dad a new car. His car's a bit old. There's a new car series that came out, so I want to change it for him. Originally, I wanted to get them a new house first, but honestly I think it'll be a bit hard for this year. I said I would build them a three-story house, but it looks like that'll have to be pushed back a little.
Lee Joon: First place is important, but I want to show everyone a me that is improving more and more. The members were really sick during first album, so we couldn't promote a lot. I want to show our fans a healthy image of us.
Thunder: I want to put a song I made into our album.
G.O: That can't be called a wish, because Thunder's skills have been approved by Jihoon hyung, so I think that his wish is one that can be fulfilled.
G.O: And my wish is Korean unification. When the current state of affairs is unstable, it's hard to sing. The Cheonan sinking was sad, and it's hard these days because there's so much talk of war. It's important for us to get first place and win DaeSang, but I want to sing in a stable environment.
G.O: Because when the masses turn on the TV, it's anxious these days. In the back of my mind, there's always the anxiety that there might be a war erupting any moment. I want to sing after the Koreas unify. 


Q. How was the first meeting between the members? Who is the most sociable?

Thunder: G.O hyung had a lot of hair on the day we first met. On that day, his hair was particularly bushy, so I can't erase that impression on my mind.
Thunder: And this person (gestures to Lee Joon) had a really nice body. And his personality was so unique that I thought, "Why is this person like this?". I couldn't tell what kind of person he was..that kind of personality.


Q. What chore are you in charge of at the dorm? ke ke ke

Lee Joon: I'm in charge of making the dorm messy! The ahjumma cleans it all, and I feel sorry to her, but my mind feels strange when the room is clean. That's why when the ahjumma leaves after organizing everything, I sloppily take the clothes off the hangers. I must not like things to be uniform. I can't get used to it.
(What about cooking and things like that?)
G.O: Our house is not an environment to cook in. We don't have a gas range, and we use the refrigerator as a freezer.^^ The water purifier and the microwave are in charge of us. We don't cook.
G.O: We're rookies, so it's kind of a given, but the state of our dorm isn't very good. But we're going to move into a nice place soon.^^


Q. What is the best compliment you've each heard from Rain?

Seungho: The compliment that all the members did well, we heard when we finished our come back stage for 'Y' at Inkigayo. "If you guys keep doing it like this, then from now on, hyung won't need to pay attention". He said that, and somehow, it made me more anxious.
Seungho: When we finished the performance, we felt like we didn't do as well as we could've, so we had the thought that we should do better on next week's stage. When Jihoon hyung complimented us, it made us more anxious.
(We didn't hear an answer on individual compliments. Sorry to the person who asked!)


Q. What do you usually do on the computer?

G.O: I monitor and read the main articles. We stop at web surfing, but Seungho has a lot of interest in electronics, so he looks for news on new electronics and information on how to update the ones he has now.
(Is there anyone who likes gaming?)
Mir: We try not to game. We're bloodtype A, so we know that if we fall in once we'll never come back out, so we just don't try.
Thunder: For me, ever since our debut day, I wanted to play games, so I tried to install it several times but couldn't figure out how, so I still haven't.
Mir: Unexpectedly, he's not good with computers.
(You could ask Seungho to help.)
Thunder: I was too lazy to go to that room to ask for help.
G.O: When Thunder asks, "Hyung, how do you do this?", he's like a baby, so I always want to help him. So when I teach him and ask if he needs anything else and that I'll tell him, he says, "No. This is fine". And it ends like that.
G.O: Thunder has a tendency to act tiresome when the answer to the question he asked goes overboard. ^^


Q. You guys live together in a dorm. Are there any incidents that were funny or surprising? Tell us ^^

Thunder: I was watching a horror movie with Seungho hyung. I can only watch scary movies when I'm covered in blankets and holding a pillow with the lights off. With Seungho hyung next to me, I looked at him as I said, "Hyung! This is good!" at the climax part, and he was sleeping. He slept like that until morning.
Seungho: I like horror and thriller movies. If a movie is fun to watch, I sleep. The moment I focus on the movie, I fall asleep. I don't sleep at the theaters, but at home I always fall asleep. That's why I usually watch movies in parts.
Lee Joon: At the dorm, we don't really participate in others' businesses, because at the dorm, we want to rest.
Mir: After coming home, Joonie hyung comes out after about two hours on the computer. He stays in the dorm so quietly that you don't even know he's there. Joonie hyung is the type of person who lazes around and does nothing at home for long periods of time.


Q. The choreography for 'Y' is really powerful, and I saw that you guys pulled off the live well while doing the powerful dance. I was surprised because your live skills improved compared to the first album. Did you have a special practice method?

Lee Joon: There wasn't a method. We just practiced a lot.
Seungho: I think we put focus on the choreography and performance for 'Oh Yeah'. I can say this now, but when it was too hard to sing while dancing, I used to slightly not sing. We used to practice the singing and dancing separately as well. But when we stood on stage like that, it was really hard.
Seungho: I got the thought that even if we don't dance as powerfully, we should pay more attention to singing on stage. So we practiced singing while dancing.
(How is the choreography different when comparing 'Oh Yeah' with 'Y'?)
Lee Joon: 'Oh Yeah' had a lot of technical moves. It's a dance that anyone can do with practice. 'Y' is a dance that anyone can follow, but it's hard to follow really well. I think that's the difference.
(Do the members themselves feel that their live singing has improved?)
Thunder: (nods his head)
Seungho: I had a really hard time during practice and recording because I tried a voice that I had never done before. In the last album, I didn't have a lot of vocal parts, so there wasn't a burden. In this album, each member's parts are noticeable and I had a lot of vocal parts, so it felt burdensome. I'm just thankful that everyone sees us kindly.
Lee Joon: More than any other practice, I think the best and most effective way is to practice the choreography while singing live. What's fascinating is that at first, I couldn't even get a sound out, but as we practiced more, I found a breathing technique that worked with the choreography, and got used to it. I can now sing while doing a powerful dance.


Q. A while ago, the members of 2PM went on radio and picked MBLAQ as an idol group they want to get closer to. But Lee Joon and G.O are MCing for a music program with 2PM's Nichkhun, Junho, and Chansung. Are you guys still awkward?

G.O: We've only met while working and haven't met them outside personally yet. Interestingly, Rain hyung doesn't take us out anywhere. 2PM and 2AM hang out together, but he doesn't ever take us anywhere.
G.O: A while ago, I was supposed to go bowling with those friends, but someone called me and said, "Rain hyung said he was going too, do you want to go?". Then it makes it hard for us to go, because Rain hyung wasn't the one who first asked us to go hang out with him. 
G.O: So I don't think I've ever specially met with the 2PM members. Those friends' schedules are really busy. I want to get closer to them but I'm sad because there's not an easy chance to.
Mir: Park JinYoung sunbaenim told Jihoon hyung that he wanted to see MBLAQ, but Jihoon hyung told him that we had to practice and wouldn't let him. I think that Jihoon hyung feels a definite education method for us, his 'students'. All of the company singers are comfortable colleagues.

INTERVIEW: D-NA “The Rebel Image, It Just Fits Us”

[NoCut Interview] 5 member male idol group D-NA who have returned with their mini-album 'Awake'.

Male idol group ‘D-NA’ (Mika Hyunmin Injun Karam Jay) has had a comeback as rebels.

D-NA has charged in with the release of their latest mini-album ‘Awake’ and their promotions for their title song ‘Stumble Stumble’. For D-NA who had debuted in March with their online album ‘Admiring Boy’, ‘Awake’ is their first official offline album.

The D-NA members have revealed that “It seems like we have now properly debuted” and that “We are glad that we are now able to give our album as a gift to people. They say that the first batch had been sold out so we are so surprised while happy of the fact that there are fans out there who are actually buying our albums” with a wide smile.

D-NA had decided on a new concept of rebelling. ‘Admiring Boy’ had shown a pure, youthful image, but this showed a more mature image. The title ‘Awake’ also means ‘a boy awaking as a man’.

Member Injun has said that “it is an image that we don’t have to force ourselves to look like men so it fits us very well” and has explained that “you can see it as the process of becoming a real man”.

The leader, Mika and the youngest, Jay said in one voice “Rather than a really young feeling, we think that this concept suits us more” and that “we’re working naturally”.

The title song ‘Stumble Stumble’ is a dance song in an electronic pop genre and was composed and written by the composer Ahn Young Min. The members revealed that “cause we liked all the songs, we had to think for a long time on which one would be our title song” and explained that “after much discussion, we decided to choose ‘Stumble Stumble’ as our title song”.

D-NA who has just passed their 100th day after debut. For the last 4 months, they have performed, held a showcase in Japan, and started a new project. The members have all said that they have no idea on where all that time had disappeared to.

Member Hyunmin has said that “There is a lot of worry going on because I had lost weight. I didn’t lose it intentionally, it just went away by itself since I was so tired”

Even though it is exhausting, D-NA is enjoying the busy schedule. Especially Karam who said that, “My mother has covered her beauty salon with D-NA posters to the extent where it is like our poster exhibition hall. My mother is excited on the fact that her name is being mentioned on t.v.” and while laughing, revealed that “as her son, I am very happy to see her like that”.

Karam than revealed that “I have a lot of relatives who have businesses in the beauty industry, so my relatives have all put up our posters on their beauty salons” and that “I am determined to work very hard for my family and for my fans”.

The leader, Mika, said that “We have learnt how to control our conditions, and the members’ tru colours have come out. We have also learnt the know-hows on stage” and that “we have gained more resilience when we have to participate in activities”.

Mika (@Mika90628) and Injun (@Injun0309) has started the online social network Twitter not too long ago. Mika has said that “we haven’t even promoted overseas but there are people who are following me from Japan, Thailand, needless to say Singapore, and also from Brazil” and that “I think that I really need to improve my foreign languages to be able to communicate with all these fans”.

D-NA has now shed their soft hair* and is now taking dignified steps as singers. They have said that, same as when they debuted, “we want to become known around Asia as D-NA” and again revealed their dreams.

“We have become a little bit more known. This is a time where we should work as hard as we can to steady our place. We’ll have to show D-NA’s potential to develop. But we are not going to rush ourselves. We are thinking of showing ourselves slowly one by one. We have endless possibilities on what we can do. Please support us because we will become Asia’s D-NA”

Marie Claire Magazine July 2010 Issue – Yunho’s Interview

From THSK’s leader to actor Jung Yunho, Uknow YunHo, who is gradually getting used to standing alone, now stands before a Marie Claire’s camera at a station in Hong Kong. Even though he dislikes innocent and naïve idealists, this youth, who chose an unusual route in life, still keeps his focus ahead while he continues to enjoy running on without feeling tired.

Even if we can use our eyes to see, and our ears to hear, how local artistes are welcomed abroad, it is difficult to experience and understand it realistically. While we know how loved THSK and Uknow YunHo are in Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan and other countries, the degree of passion is a fact that we can never estimate or affirm. As such, for Marie Clarie’s pictorial shoot, Uknow YunHo, who headed to Hong Kong, was swarmed by fans the moment he arrived at the airport, and the scene was so packed to the extent that one could not have anticipated such a response.
Thinking about this, a few months back, I read a report about how his Japanese fans donated a significant amount to charity in Uknow YunHo’s name. It won’t hurt to treat this as a model response towards turning the culture of the fans into a positive meaning.
Of course, the strength of Uknow YunHo’s image was accumulated through THSK. Just as I thought it would be a great idea to have an idol group whom I can grow old with, the pitied disbandment brought about a huge blow to all the fans.
Also, Uknow YunHo began a new career though the television drama <>. Based only on the popularity and fame he already had, and with a television drama that was bound to be popular, YunHo chose instead to play a character devoid of luxury and perks, which surprised everyone. Furthermore, the strengths of “Cha Bong Gun”, which was his candid and simple-mindedness, clashed with a part of Uknow YunHo’s image. Thus I was once very intrigued. Not by how easy he made dancing seemed, nor the charisma-filled Uknow YunHo on stage, but what charms Jung YunHo possessed as a person. Whether Uknow YunHo eventually hopes to become an actor, or a singer, or a star, though we may not know now, but the question of whether or not the name of Uknow YunHo, who came from THSK, is effective, the extraordinary ability that Jung YunHo had as a person from the start was what shone forth through this youth.
1. Even though you are unable to experience the vacation mood while travelling to different places because of work, how was the photo shoot in Hong Kong?
“Hong Kong is a place that I’m visiting again after such a long while, and I was very surprised and amazed to see so many fans the moment I arrived at the airport. So I felt a lot of peace and warmth during this period in Hong Kong. Even though we had to suddenly shift our plans due to the overwhelming gathering of fans, to carry out the pictorial photo shoot at 3AM when there was no one around, I was also given the opportunity to walk around the streets of Hong Kong at 3AM. It was a different experience and it made the whole photo shoot more meaningful instead. The beautiful night scene of Hong Kong is really not bad, and just looking at it lifts up one’s mood.”
2. How does it feel to practically experience the number of fans abroad?

“Shocked yet amazing at the same time. Through this photo shoot, I was able to experience all over again, to have a grateful heart; even though we had been unable to come visit, we are really grateful towards how they are constantly always trying to help us, and I’ve always missed the fans.”

3. Do you like travelling? I’m very curious, not about the singer or actor Uknow YunHo, but the type of vacation Jung YunHo personally likes usually?
“I like to travel light. Usually it is to the beach, being able to chat with friends then go on an impromptu vacation is not a bad idea too. It doesn’t have to be someplace very far, as long as it is with people you are close to, then it will be filled with happiness.”
4. Ah, before this, did you have any mindset that I’m someone as ordinary as those my age? Have you ever felt that over time, you drift further from them?
“It has been a long time since I debut, so there’s this feeling of having journeyed for a long time. But when I look around at the people who have walked all this way with me, then I would think that I’m not an artiste, rather, I am a normal youth. I meet up often with my childhood friends, and when we meet we would chat about our dreams when we were younger, or what we look forward to in the future. There are also friends who are much older than me, I talk to them quite often and we’re pretty close.”
5. What type of person do you like? As a man, what do you feel makes a man look good?
“Be it as a man or as a person, the type that I like is the same, which are those whose words are consistent with their actions, and who are people of their word. I don’t like to mix with people who constantly uses excuses to justify themselves, or with those who try to justify their wrongdoings into being reasonable. What I feel is cool are people who don’t forget their dreams and ideal even as they grow old. That is because I’m someone who constantly looks ahead and run towards it with my best, so I am not easily distracted, nor do I stop to take a rest. While this is quite regretful, this is a character trait that has already been formed so I have no choice.”
6. What is the one other thing that you never tire of other than work?
“It differs from time to time, I will never tire of vacations and exercise. There are times when I feel like riding a bicycle to Bundang, or have a casual drive up there; I have also walked a day along the railway track.”
7. It would be quite shocking if we were to bump into Uknow YunHo while walking along a road. What do you do when you are alone?
“Read books, or watch movies. I read whatever I have on hand. Novels, comics, economics-related books, I even read encyclopedia (laughs). I don’t have any particular genre of movies that I watch; I like to watch them all. It is the same for music, from the latest trend to old pop, I am the type who listens based on how I feel that day. And thinking about it now, even though I haven’t really been there before, I think I have always had a particular vacation plan.”
8. What have you been doing a lot recently?
“As there are works that are currently in the planning process, so I want to give my best in that. After filming the video that is being screened at the Republic of Korea Pavilion during the Shanghai EXPO, I have this pictorial photo shoot in Hong Kong, and both of them, amongst the other works, are all very new to me, which is good.”
9. Do we call you UknowYunHo now, or Jung YunHo? Which one do we use?

“Isn’t Uknow YunHo Jung YunHo? I think both of the names are me, so it’s okay whichever way you call me.”
10. Was it very tough trying acting for the first time? Did you enjoy it as much as performing on the stage?
“Obviously I would feel it was tough as it is something unfamiliar, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Compared to the acting skills, where there are minor parts that I have to work on, it was mostly a period whereby I was able to understand better and learn from the life experiences of the elders, and it was also where I became affiliated to Lee Yoon Ji, who is elder than me.”
11. What goals do you have as an actor?
“I hope to become an actor like Johnny Depp. I feel he is a truly talented actor with his own unique characteristic trait, and who constantly brings a new image of himself to us.”
12. How does it feel, being away from the other THSK members, and having to work alone with people whom you don’t know? Surely you will feel scared and lonely?
“I would be lying if I say otherwise. But I won’t feel helpless or hesitate because of that. Be it in new things, or new people, if we don’t take them seriously, then we will never be able to go near it, become friends, and this is also the reason why I’m always sincerely and seriously giving my best to everything and everyone. In this way, even if the matter does not work out, you can still earn a friendship.”
13. On screen, you leave an image on everyone that you are someone who is very honest.
“Being an artiste is a career that you can never always keep your honesty. It is not easy to maintain your honesty all the time. Because (at any point of time) there can surface a misunderstanding that is not true, so I am working very hard to learn how, while standing on the foundation of honesty, still say words which I can take responsibility for. I hate regret, so I want to do my best to practice what I preach.”
14. Are there any differences between the Uknow YunHo who we see on screen, and the Jung YunHo in actual life? In short, what do you think is the biggest misconception people have about Jung YunHo?
“I am very thankful that everyone thinks I am manly, that I have charisma, and that I am someone with leadership skills. While I do possess all these, in actual fact, in front of people whom I am closer to, I am someone who is quite flighty and I am quite the slapstick. Even though sometimes during work, I get teary, or I give my all and work hard to achieve perfection, normally however, I am someone who is quite bubbly and mischievous.”

15. Including overseas activities, be it in television drama, movie, or music, can you gave a brief description of what you have decided to do in the short term?

“I am someone who gets easily excited on stage than anyone else, so I will definitely continue to do music no matter what style it is. Other than this, there are a lot of other plans. I have lay down a few possibilities, but as to which activities to start on first, that is still in the midst of planning. I should probably be showing a new side of myself to everyone. I hope everyone who has been watching me will wait patiently and be able to enjoy (it).”

16. Right now, do you have any thoughts of wanting to continue to move forward? Also, things that you have wished for initially, will you continue them in the future?

“Of course, even right now I want to keep on moving forward. I am the type who constantly holds on to my dreams, and would constantly vision the future in my mind; this constantly makes me excited. I want to keep on moving forward, after having conquered the mountain, I would be able to see a higher mountain. While I will get breathless or tired while climbing the mountain, I would officially be stronger than before after I have endured those times. As I climb up further, I will see taller mountains, and I will be able to see a wider perspective of the world (and this makes me happy). “While the period now is good, there are times where I wish time would pass by quickly. That is because after I have begun something, compared to the deadline and achievements that I have set out for myself from the start, I am curious to see how many I have actually fulfilled and achieved, so I want to quickly see how I fare then.”

18. I want to know, are there any things that you miss a lot?
“My hometown, Gwangju, because since secondary school, I have been in Seoul to live as a trainee, I miss my family a lot, especially my younger sister. In my memory, there is only the image of her as a primary school student, and how she is now as an adult. While on the surface, I am the elder brother, in actually fact, there were more instances when I have received a lot of encouragement and strength from her, and for that, I feel apologetic towards her. I would like to meet up frequently with my sister, buy good food for her and bring her to places which are fun.”

19. Is there an ideal person you aspire to become, or anything that you wish to have?
“I hope to be a good father. The person I respect most is my father, and I want to be the father he was to me. My dream is to be a father in a harmonious family, and I think this is one of the toughest to do. Also, since young, I have always wanted to be someone who can bring hope to people in desperation, and this mentality has not changed at all. Whether in singing, acting, or even in what I have mentioned earlier, what I have said are those which I am able to do good in.”
20. I feel that recently, you have matured suddenly.
“I hope that compared to the past, I will be able to listen and think more before acting on something. After deciding where to do, there will be no other choice other than believing and trusting in me.”

' 한국인 비하 글'로 곤욕을 치르다 지난해 9월 가족들이 있는 미국 시애틀로 떠났던 2PM의 전 리더 박재범이 9개월 만에 팬들 곁으로 돌아왔다. 18일 오후 5시 50분 인천국제공항을 통해 입국한 재범은 3주 이상 국내에 체류하며 영화 촬영에 매진할 계획이다.

9개월 만의 컴백…3주 이상 국내 체류

팀을 전격 탈퇴한 뒤 지난 2월 소속사로부터 '영구 탈퇴(제명)'를 당하는 이중고를 겪은 재범에게, 당시만 해도 국내 연예계 복귀는 요원한 것으로 보였다.

소속사의 보도자료와 '2PM 간담회' 등을 통해 소속사와 함께 할 수 없는 '과오'를 저지른 것으로 알려진 재범은 뚜렷한 혐의도 없이 국내 연예계에서 사실상 '퇴출'을 당하는 비운을 겪었다. 재범의 탈퇴 사유에 대해 온갖 음모론과 루머가 떠돌았지만 국내 3대 엔터테인먼트사 중 하나인 JYPE와 돌아올 수 없는 강을 건넌 재범이 국내로 돌아와 재기할 수 있는 여지는 없어 보였다.

그러나 재범은 일어섰다. 자신의 '사생활'을 둘러싼 세간의 의혹어린 시선과 잡음을 뒤로한채 조금씩 미래를 준비해 나가기 시작했다.

지난해 말부터 자신이 속한 비보잉팀 'AOM(Art Of Movement)'를 통해 건재함을 과시해왔던 재범은 동영상 사이트 유튜브를 통해 팬들을 향한 메시지를 직접 남기는가하면 직접 연습한 랩과 노래를 들려주는 모습을 보임으로써 노래에 대한 열정과 꿈을 아직도 놓지 않고 있음을 드러냈다.

특히 재범은 지난 3월 미국의 인기 팝스타 비오비(B.O.B)의 '낫싱 온 유(Nothin’On You)'를 부른 동영상을 유튜브에 올려 조회수가 500만 건을 돌파할 정도로 폭발적인 인기를 끌었다.

동영상 하나로 자신의 진가를 재확인, 국내외 네티즌의 이목을 집중시키는 데 성공한 재범은 지난 4월 한국계 래퍼 덤파운디드(Dumbfoundead)와 함께 노래를 발표하며 본격적인 컴백 수순을 밟아왔다.

지 난 15일 비오비와 함께 랩과 보컬을 나눠 부른 '낫싱 온 유(국내 버전)' 디지털 싱글을 발매한 재범은 음악 활동 외에도 '하이프네이션'이라는 한미합작영화에 출연, 영화 배우로서의 변신을 준비 중이다.

미국 대표팀 vs 겜블러크루, '비보잉 대결' 그려

'하이프 네이션(Hype Nation)'은 동양인 비보이 팀이 아시아에서 열린 세계 비보이대회에 참가한 뒤 미국에서 성공을 거둔다는 내용을 그린 청춘 영화. 비보이들의 도전과 애환을 그리는 작품이니만큼 실제 비보이들이 다수 참가할 예정이며 재범은 극중 비보이 세계챔피언인 겜블러크루의 리더 역을 맡았다.

재범 외에도 미국의 래퍼 B2K가 출연을 확정지은 상태이며 혼혈배우 데니스오와 프로듀서 겸 배우인 캐리 히로유키 타가와(Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa)도 이들과 함께 호흡을 맞출 예정이다.

특히 '하이프 네이션'에는 마이클 잭슨, 푸시캣 돌즈 등의 음반 프로듀서로 활동한 테디 라일리(Teddy Riley)가 음악 프로듀서로 참여, 향후 영화 출연과 병행해 세계 무대를 겨냥한 다국적 걸그룹 '라니아(RaNia)'를 선보일 계획으로 알려져 국내 가요계의 주목을 끌고 있다.

'거장' 테디 라일리와 손을 잡고 세계 음악시장을 향한 당찬 도전을 시작한 라니아는 과거 베이비복스 신화를 만들었던 'DR뮤직'이 기획한 아이돌 걸그룹으로 한국, 중국, 태국 출신의 7인조 여성 그룹으로 알려져 있다.

이 중 현재 모 고등학교 2학년에 재학 중인 라니아의 티애(T-ae)가 재범의 여동생으로 출연, 걸그룹 데뷔와 영화배우로서의 신고식을 동시에 치르는 전무후무한 기록을 세우게 될 전망이다.

크리스찬 스트릭랜드(Christian Strickland)와 '하이프 네이션'을 공동 연출할 알란 칼자티(Alan Calzatti) 감독은 유명그룹 백스트리트보이즈, 엔싱크 등의 뮤직비디오를 제작한 바 있는 실력파 감독으로 알려져 있다.

전체 촬영 분량 중 70%를 국내에서 소화할 것으로 알려진 '하이프 네이션'은 22~23일부터 촬영을 시작, 두 달여간 국내분 촬영을 마친 뒤 나머지 20%를 미국 로스앤젤레스와 뉴멕시코에서 촬영할 계획이다.

내년 여름 개봉을 목표로 이번주부터 촬영에 돌입하는 '하이프 네이션' 제작진은 현재 재범과 함께 서울 마포구 상암동 소재 아파트에 머물며 첫 촬영 준비에 박차를 가하고 있는 것으로 있다. 촬영 장소로는 서울 강남 논현동의 유명 호텔 클럽 등을 섭외 중인 것으로 알려졌다.

다음은 출연 배우 티애의 소속사이자 '하이프 네이션'의 국내 홍보를 맡은 DR뮤직 관계자와의 일문일답.

- DR뮤직이 영화 제작에 관여하고 있다는 얘기가 있습니다.

▲아닙니다. '하이프네이션' 제작사 대표가 DR뮤직 윤등룡 대표와 돈독한 사이를 유지하고 있는 분이라 일정 부문 상호 협력키로 한 것일 뿐, DR뮤직이 제작에 뛰어든 것은 아닙니다. 다만 아무래도 댄스 영화이다보니, 음악적인 면이나 출연 배우의 결정 등에 제작 초기부터 관여한 사실은 있습니다.

- 제작사가 상대적으로 덜 알려진 곳이라 팬들의 궁금증이 상당한 것 같습니다.

▲'하이프네이션' 제작사는 영화와 이름이 같은 '하이프네이션'입니다. 투자금을 유치해 이를 토대로 영화를 제작하고 차후 수익을 분해하기 위해 만들어진 일종의 투자펀드이자 문화전문회사(SPC)로 볼 수 있습니다. 이같은 시스템은 철저히 미국식이죠.

- 한미합작 영화라는데 투자금 유치는 주로 어디에서 이뤄졌으며 한국 스태프들의 참여도가 얼마나 되는지 알고 싶습니다.

▲CJ창업투자의 투자금을 받아 이를 통해 '하이프네이션'이란 제작사를 세웠고 향후 총괄 프로듀서인 제이슨 리의 지휘아래 모든 프로세스가 진행될 예정입니다. 대신 엔지니어와 디렉터, 프로듀서 등은 미국 현지에서 실력을 인정받은 다수의 스태프가 참여할 계획입니다. 그러나 영화 후반 작업과 3D촬영은 미국 측 스태프가 아닌 순수 국내 기술로 소화할 예정입니다.

- 국내 촬영분이 70%라는데 촬영 기간이 다소 짧군요?

▲네, 22일부터 촬영 계획이 잡혀있지만 어쩌면 하루 늦춰질 수도 있습니다. 어쨌든 이번주부터 촬영에 들어가 약 두 달여 동안 빼곡한 스케줄을 소화할 계획입니다. 많이 잡아 한 80일 정도 국내에 머무를 계획을 갖고 있습니다. 여러분들이 관심을 갖고 있는 재범은 이 중 10~15회분 정도를 촬영할 예정이구요. 나머지 배우들이 순차적으로 촬영, 두달 기간을 채우게 될 겁니다. 이후 나머지 20~30%를 해외 로케이션 촬영으로 마무리해 크랭크 업을 할 예정입니다. 어느 정도 아시겠지만 이번 영화는 비보잉 대회 장면이 다수 포함돼 있어(장소 이동이 많지 않아) 두 달 정도의 시간이면 충분하리라 봅니다.

- 재범의 출연이 의외인데, 어떻게 출연키로 결정이 난 건지 궁금하군요.

▲그 부분은 저도 잘 모르겠습니다. 개인적으로 이번 영화를 통해 처음 만난 터라…

- 재범과 얘기는 나눠 보셨나요? 표정이나 분위기는 어떻습니까?

▲ 어떤 말씀이신지 잘 알겠습니다만, 영화 준비에 여념이 없다는 말씀만 드리고 싶습니다. 누구보다도 열정이 있고 열심히 촬영 준비에 임하고 있습니다. 현재로선 촬영장 공개 계획이 서 있지 않지만 조만간 영화 전반에 대한 소개를 하는 제작발표회가 있을 겁니다. 그때 만나 뵙겠습니다.

- 아직 데뷔도 안 한 신인그룹 멤버가 출연하게 된 점이 이채롭습니다.

▲2년 동안 연습생 생활을 거친 티애라는 친구인데 이번 영화에서 홍일점, 즉 유일한 여성으로 등장합니다. 맡게 된 배역도 일종의 '비걸(B-Girl)'로서 격한 춤은 아니지만 나름대로 느낌을 살리는 정도의 댄스를 선보일 예정입니다.

That is not true. The representative of the Hype Nation production team and DR Music's Yoon Deungryong representative are very close friends and so it became a cooperative effort since they work in the same fields. DR Music is not participating in the production of the movie. However, since the movie is about dance, we have been taking part in decisions regarding music and star castings.

- The fact that the production company is not so well known has aroused the curiosity of many fans.

The production company of Hype Nation has the same name as the movie, Hype Nation. We first attract the investors and divide the profits once the movie has been produced. It's a kind of investment fund and culture company (SPC) in one. This system is very American.

- The movie is called a Korean-American joint project movie but where have you been attracting the most investments and how high is the level of participation from the Korean staff members?

Investments were first received from CJ Venture Capital which was then used to create a production company under the name of Hype Nation. Afterwards, it is expected for producer Jason Lee to process everything under his direction. Engineers, directors, and producers are all Americans that have had their skills/talents recognized in America. The second half of the movie production and the 3D filming will be done with Korean technology, not American staff members.

- Over 70% of the filming will take place in Korea but the actual amount of time spent filming in the nation is quite short.

Yes, we've planned to begin filming on the 22nd but it can be delayed. Regardless, it will begin this week. It will be a tight schedule for about two or so months. We're thinking of staying a little over 80 days in Korea. Jaebum, who a lot of people are interested in, will be filming about 10~15 insertions. The rest of the actors will film in order and will stay for the entire two months. The last 20~30% of the movie will be filmed internationally and will be finished with a crank up. As you all know, this movie is a b-boy movie and so the majority of the scenes will take place in a b-boy competition which does not require a lot of location changes. Two months is more than enough time.

- It's a bit surprising that Jaebum was cast. We're curious how it was decided to cast him.

I don't know him that well so I'm not sure. I met him for the first time through this movie...

- Have you talked to Jaebum? How are his facial expressions or overall atmosphere?

I think I know what you're trying to ask but I would like to say that he is completely absorbed with his movie preparations. He's got more passion than anyone else and he's really trying his best in preparation. There is no official schedule for the filming but there will be a production conference to introduce the first half of the movie. We will see you then.

- The fact that a girl group member that hasn't even debuted yet is participating in this movie is quite unusual.

T-ae has two years of trainee experience under her belt and will appear in this movie as the only female role. She's also a b-girl. Although she won't be showing off any hardcore dance moves, she will be showing off her personal feel through her dance.
