Seoul Good!
Forget mud-stained pants and sweltering heat, it was a night of all things Korean at the first-ever SEOUL’D OUT SUNDOWN FESTIVAL 2009!
The Korean wave crashed with style into Fort Canning Park on 12 December 2009, in the form of Seoul’d Out 2009! Wanting to bring the ‘Best of Asia’ to K-feverish Singapore, Red Spade Entertainment stayed true to its promise – delivering a solid line-up of live arts and cultural fringe acts to over 7000 K-philes!
If you weren’t lucky enough to attend the awesome show, here’s a recap of the top five highlights that weill make you green with jealosy!
Eye Candy
The talented performers of the Drawing Show and Jin Jo B*Boys gave the audiece a visual treat with their high-energy speed painting and whirlwind moves! First up, the panda-eyed trio of the Drawing Show gave a colourful performance – bringing to life Napoleon, the city’s skyline and a Chinese mountain range!
Although they only made two interlude appearances, the tight-knit Jin Jo crew wowed the audience with their show-stopping moves and perfect coordination that even break-dancing enthusiasts would bow down to in awe!
Charming Newbies
Making his debut performance in Singapore, multi-talented rapper Mario showcased his strong American influences by covering R&B tunes like ‘Umbrella’ and ‘Spotlight’; while jazzy siren Bak Si Nae lent her strong vocals to the hit song ‘Never Say Goodbye’ from Korean soap, My Girl.
On a more heartfelt note, suave crooner Lee Ji Su made up for his lack in the English department with his powerful voice! Even though it was his first time in Singapore, his set of emotional ballads was lapped up by female fans, leaving them in squeals of delight!
The Perfect Trio
Besides a strong following in music, the boys of T-MAX have also been drawing a huge fan base through the goggle box by performing the theme song of Boys Over Flowers.
Comprising of vocalists Sim Min Chul, Pak Yun Hwa and rapper Kim Joon (who acted in the hit show), the dapper dressers brought Fort Canning Park to a high with catchy pop tunes like ‘Paradise’, ‘Bang Bang Boom’ and ‘I Love You’. Not wanting to disappoint the audience, they even returned for an explosive encore!
Young Guns
F.T (Five Treasure) Island can be likened to a more youthful version of legendary rockers Guns ‘n’ Roses and unlike other boy bands, they actually play their own instruments!
Led by charismatic showman Lee Hong Gi, the youthful quintet consisting of guitarists Choi Jong Hun and Song Seung Hyun, bassist Lee Jae Jin and drummer Choi Min Hwan, gave our local treasure hunters a run for their money as they sang along to rocking gems like ‘Bing Bing Bing’, ‘I Hope’ and ‘Lovesick’.
Hazel Eyed Wonders
Wrapping up the night were soul-sisters Brown Eyed Girls! Clad like futuristic fairies B.E.G’s Je-A, Narsha, Miryo and Ga-In mesmerised festival-goers with their infectious hip-swaying. They even got the boys in the crowd off their feet by dancing and singing to hits like ‘Sign’, ‘LOVE’ and a hair-raising rendition of ‘You Raise Me Up’.
With all the right moves and voices to boot, the fantastic quartet gave the crowd their all with smash hit ‘Abracadabra’, and donned the very same costumes from their performances in Korea.
